Healthcare Access

Healthcare is a right, not a privilege. No family in Essex County should ever be forced to choose between their health and their finances.

Insurance premiums continue to climb across Massachusetts
Community health centers remain critically underfunded
Mental health providers are scarce across Essex County

Too Many Residents Are Making Impossible Choices

Too many residents of the 1st Essex District are making impossible choices. Skipping doctor's visits, rationing medication, or ignoring symptoms because they cannot afford care.

Despite Massachusetts being a national leader in health coverage, significant gaps remain. Community health centers are underfunded, mental health providers are scarce, and the cost of insurance premiums continues to climb — pushing care out of reach for working families across Essex County.

"No family should ever be forced to choose between their health and their finances."

Stephen believes that access to quality, affordable healthcare is not a privilege reserved for those with good jobs or high incomes. It is a fundamental right — and he will fight to make it a reality for every person in the 1st Essex District.

What Stephen Will Fight For

Fund Community Health Centers

Fight for dedicated state funding to expand and strengthen community health centers across Essex County so that every resident has access to quality primary care close to home.

Expand Mental Health Access

Address the critical shortage of mental health providers by supporting expanded training pipelines, telehealth investment, and insurance parity enforcement for mental health services.

Lower Prescription Costs

Fight for state-level action to lower the cost of prescription medications so that no resident is forced to ration their medicine because they cannot afford a refill.

Protect Coverage

Defend and strengthen existing coverage protections so that pre-existing conditions never again become a barrier to affordable, comprehensive healthcare for Essex County families.

Healthcare Is a Right — Not a Privilege

When people can access the care they need, communities thrive. Stephen will fight every day in the State House to ensure that every resident of the 1st Essex District can see a doctor, afford their medication, and access the mental health support they deserve.
