The Problem: The roads, bridges, water systems, and public spaces of the 1st Essex District are aging, and the funding to maintain and modernize them has not kept pace with the need. Essex County communities face significant deferred infrastructure investment, and the burden of fixing it too often falls on local property taxpayers rather than the state. As someone who has worked on municipal budgets in Salisbury, I know firsthand how difficult it is for smaller communities to fund major infrastructure projects without meaningful state support.
My Plan:
- Fight for increased state Chapter 90 funding to help municipalities maintain and improve local roads and bridges
- Advocate for targeted state investment in water and sewer infrastructure across the 1st Essex District
- Support expanded funding for public transit connections that give residents alternatives to car dependency
- Push for state grants that help coastal communities address climate-related infrastructure vulnerabilities
- Champion transparent, accountable processes for how infrastructure dollars are allocated and spent
Why It Matters: Infrastructure is the foundation on which everything else is built. When roads are crumbling, when water systems are failing, when bridges are flagged for repair — it is not just an inconvenience. It is a signal that our communities are not being prioritized. Every resident of the 1st Essex District deserves to live in a community that is safe, functional, and built for the future.
Call to Action: Join me in fighting for a 1st Essex District where our communities have the infrastructure they need to be safe, connected, and ready for the challenges ahead.
